Two other international projects have also been nominated for the same award. There’s Digging Into The Mining Arc, a joint reporting project between InfoAmazonia and Correo del Caroní which features in-depth stories on illegal gold mining operations in Central and South America, as well as A Broken System; a non-partisan, not-for-profit multimedia journalism series exposing widespread corruption in Kansas City’s criminal justice system.
ONA is the world’s largest association of digital journalists, and is currently made up of more than 2,000 members from all around the world. One year after its formation in 1999, the ONA started administering the Online Journalism Awards, the only awards honouring excellence in international digital journalism.
The Daphne Project is a collaboration of 45 journalists from 18 news organisations, including The New York Times, The Guardian, Le Monde, La Repubblica, Suddeutsche Zeitung, and The Times of Malta.
Coordinating the project is Forbidden Stories, an international journalists’ organisation devoted to continuing the work of imprisoned and murdered journalists.
The news of Forbidden Stories’ came on the day of the 10 month anniversary since the murder of Caruana Galizia.
