Former Economy Minister Chris Cardona has said police are outside his house for security reasons, following a report by Newsbook which questioned whether his home is being raided.

“FAKE NEWS,” Cardona said in a Facebook post, referring to the Newsbook article

“The answer to this question put forward by the irresponsible church media is NO. And despite contacting them, they continue to persist with this fake news.”

“I appeal to the media to be responsible in their reporting.”

Since then, Newsbook has gone on to update their article, quoting a spokeswoman for Cardona that police were outside his home for ‘security measures’.

Cardona suspended himself as Economy Minister yesterday, a rare political move, after he was interrogated by police in connection with the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

“Dr Cardona declares that he has absolutely no connection with the case, but after Police had asked for further clarifications, he feels duty bound to take this step in the national interest,” the ministry said.
