Former Malta Chief Justice Giuseppe ‘Gogo’ Mifsud Bonnici Dies At 89 Years Old
Former Chief Justice Giuseppe Mifsud Bonnici, fondly known as ‘Gogo’ has died at 89 years old.
Mifsud Bonnici, the elder brother of President Emeritus Ugo Mifsud Bonnici, was appointed judge in 1988 and served as Chief Justice between 1990 and 1992.
He then spent six years as a judge in the European Court of Human Rights between 1992 and 1998, before returning to Malta where he took up the roles of law commissioner and press ethics commissioner.
An avid football fan, he was also president of the Malta Football Association between 1968 and 1982 and sat on a number of UEFA boards over the years.
