Former Maltese Soldier Draws Parallels Between His ‘Army Gate’ And Keith Schembri’s ‘Malta Gate’
A soldier who was dismissed last year after a video surfaced of him ridiculing an army gate in Pembroke has taken shots at Keith Schembri and the treatment he received after resigning from his position as Chief of Staff.
Godwin Schembri was dismissed for his role within the army due to a viral video in which drove past and ridiculing a newly set up gate in Pembroke.
His sacking was deemed to a harsh penalty for his action and the former soldier even sought legal action, insisting it was a light moment and that he had not given permission for the video to be shared.
Now, in light of recent events, Schembri has drawn parallels between the way he was treated following his dismissal and the treatment that former Chief of Staff Keith Schembri received after his resignation on Tuesday.
“Both of us have the surname Schembri, Both of us worked for the government and both of us got screwed over by a gate! The only difference was that I was a soldier and you were the Chief of Staff. ‘Army Gate’ was a joke, ‘Malta Gate’ is a murder.”
“I was sacked overnight and they wiped the floor with me on the media. But they protected you for two years. You were never sacked. You were praised even when you were already at police headquarters. #OnlyinMalta”
Keith Schembri resigned this week and is currently on police bail in connection with the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. On the other hand, Godwin Schembri has not been reinstated following ‘Army Gate’.
