The former partner of a Maltese woman has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after admitting to murdering her.

41-year-old Caroline Magri, from Mqabba, was murdered three years ago on the 30th of September, 2016. The mother of eight had been stabbed repeatedly and was found with multiple slashes to her body.

Her body was found in her bed at her Ta’ Giorni home after witnesses said they heard one of her kids shouted “they’ve killed mummy”

Togolese national Djibril Ganiou admitted in front of Justice Giovanni Grixiti that he had committed the murder, and agreed to a sentence with the Attorney General. He will now avoid going to trial.

Ganiou was also ordered to pay €40,000 in court expenses.
