Former Suncrest Hotel In Qawra To Reopen As ODYCY In The Coming Weeks
The Former Suncrest Hotel will reopen its doors in a few weeks after a total re-haul will see it completely renovated and transformed.
The hotel will be rebranded as ODYCY.
“ODYCY is about reigniting interest and inspiring the regeneration of a coastal community and seaside resort into a vibrant and thriving year-round destination,” says Hospitality and Care Director at AX Group, Claire Zammit Xuereb.
“The former Suncrest was a place where both locals and visitors made some of their fondest memories. The AX ODYCY Hotel will do the same, serving as a backdrop for locals and visitors to create new memories to last a lifetime at this one destination, with endless possibilities.”
The hotel has added four new stories, completely refurbished the place and further developed the existing lidos.
The hotel will be one of the largest in Malta with a total of 600 rooms. There will be 11 restaurants and bar concepts to cater for a diverse variety of tastes.
The redevelopment of the lido sparked debate as the government proposed to declassify the area from the public domain. This needs to be done as AX Holdings has no title to the land.
The Lands Authority has been in court with Anġlu Xuereb since 1991 and CEO Robert Vella admitted that an out-of-court settlement is being discussed to settle the dispute. This would leave the land under Xuereb’s care while imposing a fine for illegal occupation.
Do you agree that public land is sacrificed for the interests of the economy?
