Former TVM Head Of News Norma Saliba To Contest PL Presidency Role
Norma Saliba, the head of the National Centre for the Maltese Language and a former TVM head of news, will contest the role of PL President.
“After a lot of thought and discussion, I decided to accept Robert Abela’s invitation to nominate myself for the role of PL President,” Saliba said.
She will be up against lawyer and former Msida mayor Alex Sciberras, who announced yesterday that he was contesting the role that has been vacated by Ramona Attard.
Saliba said that both PL deputy leader contestants Ian Borg and Alex Agius Saliba are supporting her decision.
“A new impetus and fresh ideas are necessary as part of the ongoing renewal process within the party. I will work with all my strength to ensure that the wish of all our delegates and activists is fulfilled, so that the Labour Party remains the largest political force in Malta and Gozo in the future.”
Rumours that Saliba was about to contest the role were published last night by Jason Azzopardi late, who said Cabinet secretary Ryan Spagnol is the link between her and Abela.
“I know the answer to these questions but so far I will just ask them. What does Norma Saliba know about Robert Abela? What did she tell Ryan Spagnol tonight in Naxxar? How did she threaten and blackmail Robert Abela?”
