The Fortina Hotel in Sliema has launched its bid to increase its lido to 479 sq.m in a land reclamation project, which also see its quay extended by 180 sqm. to maintain public access to the coast.

According to Malta Today, the project will allow for a larger pool (350sqm), while also creating a new bar area.

The area at street level will become a public plaza, with the restaurant moving to the upper level of the project. The lowest level will be a sunbed area.

The Environment Resources Authority has reportedly said that the project will have minimal effect on the ecology and hydrology of the area.

The Fortina itself is undergoing a revamp, with parts of its existing hotel transforming into an apartment and office block, despite reports that their lease precludes them from doing so.
