Francine Farrugia Resigns As Siġġiewi Councillor And From All PN Positions
Francine Farrugia has resigned her position as Siġġiewi councillor, as well as from all her roles within the Nationalist Party, after she was charged with embezzling €2.3 million in public funds.
“Following the court developments related to the case of Francine Farrugia which took place earlier today, the Partit Nazzjonalista contacted her legal counsel and was informed that Farrugia has resigned from all roles within the Partit Nazzjonalista, as well as from her position as local councillor in the Siġġiewi Local Council,” the PN said.
“Whilst the Partit Nazzjonalista awaits the case to follow its due course, it continues to demand the highest standards from its representatives.”
Farrugia, a former PN election candidate, was today charged with fraud and embezzlement of €2.3 million from MCAST, where she was in charged of payroll.
The police said today that Farrugia had issued double salaries and transferred some €2.3 million to her bank and Revolut accounts.
They found that Farrugia had purchased a property in Malta and entered into several promise-of-sale agreements for other properties. She also purchased vehicles and luxury clothes, and once splashed out €113,000 on clothes and jewellery from Harrods.
