Franco Debono: ‘I Am Voting Against The Regime’
Lawyer and former PN MP Franco Debono has said he is voting against the “regime” that has taken over Malta.
“I will vote to live in a country where you don’t find yourself facing court charges without the police even calling you in and giving you an opportunity to explain yourself, a basic right in all civilised countries,” Debono said, a reference to the recent Vitals court charges.
“This has become a wild country that doesn’t care about human rights. The law of the jungle reigns – those at the top are reaping the fruit, and goodbye human rights that are being broken left, right and centre.”
“A government that systematically breaches fundamental rights with its own people, let alone with Ċikku l-Poplu, is a regime and I will vote against the regime.”
“The result doesn’t interest me because the public can be slow to realise, but I will do my part. If the public is slow to wake up, I am not and never was. They give you cheques and steal your rights.”
Debono said that while the last PN administration had degenerated into an “oligarchy”, the current PL government has become a de facto “tyranny”.
“We don’t have a clique in charge, as happens in an oligarchy, but rather a single ruler. We live in a tyranny. Bear this in mind when you vote. Vote against tyranny.”
