Franco Debono Urges Grech To Rethink Resignation Decision

Franco Debono has publicly urged Bernard Grech to reconsider his decision to resign as leader of the Nationalist Party.
Debono said that he has known Grech on a personal level since they shared a minibus back when they were St Aloysius students.
“I will reveal a little secret here – he used to fancy himself a playboy back then,” he quipped.
“During his time as leader, we always had mutual respect towards each other. Last year, he led the party to its best MEP result in 15 years and in recent days I felt I had to encourage him to reconsider his position.”
“Out of respect, I invited him to rethink his decision.”
“I must say that his stature has grown since he offered his resignation.”
“Thank you Kap, for all your work. The results could have been better but there was a genuine effort. I take this opportunity to thank all those who encouraged me to contest the election in recent days.”
A week has passed since Grech announced his resignation from the PN after five years in charge, and no one has yet confirmed they intend to contest the post.
Roberta Metsola, who was widely viewed as a frontrunner, ruled it out last weekend, stating she has a responsibility towards her role as European Parliament President.
However, a person close to Grech told Lovin Malta that the PN leader has no intention of re-contesting the leadership.
