Fresh Blow For PN As Executive Secretary Rudolph Marmarà Resigns After 18 Months

Rudolph Marmarà has resigned as the Nationalist Party’s organisational executive secretary after around a year and a half in the role.

Marmarà confirmed with Lovin Malta that he has submitted his resignation, and will formally step down in the coming days. He cited “personal reasons” for his decision to resign.

The PN has yet to issue a formal statement about Marmarà’s resignation.

The role of organisational executive secretary was created in 2020 as part of a revamp to the PN statute which the party hoped would breathe some new life into its internal structures.

The organisational executive secretary was placed in charge of internal logistics and customer care, with the secretary general taking care of communications, party activities, mobilising the electorate and planning electoral campaigns.

Michael Piccinino became the PN’s first organisational executive secretary and was succeeded by Marmarà, a HR manager, after moving on to the secretary general role in 2021.

Marmarà’s resignation will come as another blow to the PN, which has continued suffering badly in the polls since last year’s historic electoral defeat. A survey published by MaltaToday over the weekend placed the PN some 60,000 votes behind the PL, with more people intending to stay at home than vote for the Opposition.

The PN has also struggled to fill some key roles and has been without a communications director since November, following the resignation of Simon Vella Gregory.
