Friction Between Pilots And Air Malta Continues After Events Boycott Announced

Air Malta pilots will no longer attend any events organised by the airline, as tensions between the two continue to grow.

ALPA, the pilot’s union, told its members that the company has continued to curtail their right to industrial action.

“The injunction is still in effect. ALPA is being withheld from exercising its power to protect its members’ rights,” a note quoted by The Malta Independent.

At the start of the month, Air Malta had been awarded a court injunction that prevented the pilots from proceeding with industrial action, which they eventually withdrew.

An early retirement scheme of €700,000 by age 55 should the national airline face bankruptcy is at the core of the dispute.

The creation of Malta Air, a Ryanair subsidiary, is also a source of tension.
