From Rooftops To The Floor, New Ground-Based Solar Panel Concept Hopes To Change The Game
A Maltese renewable energy company has launched a product that could take the country’s reliance on solar energy to the next level by installing solar panels on the ground itself.
A single hour of Maltese sun could potentially power all of the country’s needs for over a year. A situation hampered by limited land availability.
But Virtue Solaris, a renewable energy company may have found the solution by way of an innovative solar panel, which was unveiled at the opening of the 2022 MFCC Trade Fair.
The solar panels are similar to the conventional ones seen on the rooftops of our urban neighbourhoods. Where they differ, however, is where they are placed.
The panels can be lined over pavements, roads, car parks, cycleways, driveways or even footpaths.
The installation process doesn’t even need a major hassle. They can simply be integrated into existing pathways without any need for infrastructural works.
They are also anti-slip and impact-resistant and are designed to withstand pedestrian activity and light vehicle traffic.
The technology was developed by Solar Earth Solutions, the company’s Canadian technology partner. Now, it could easily find its way into residential and commercial areas looking to take that step towards renewable sources of energy.
Do you think ground-based panels could help Malta move towards a more sustainable society?
