Man Behind Failed FTX Currency Opened Two Companies In Malta Before Collapse
The entrepreneur behind the recently-collapsed FTX cryptocurrency exchange had opened two companies in Malta shortly before the crash.
Sam Bankman-Fried, who owns the FTX firm, is currently facing investigations by Bahamian authorities, with this firm recently filing for bankruptcy.
Bankman-Fried opened the Maltese companies back in April – FTX Malta Holdings Ltd, and FTX Malta Gaming Services Ltd.
The investor and former billionaire is listed as the sole director for both companies stationed in Malta.
Malta could therefore be a great option for Bankman-Fried’s comeback, hinting at a possible resurgence in a recently published tweet.
“A few weeks ago, FTX was handling ~$10b/day of volume and billions of transfers. But there was too much leverage, more than I realized. A run on the bank and market crash exhausted liquidity. So what can I try to do? Raise liquidity, make customers whole, and restart,” he said.
The MFSA has assured that it is monitoring the situation internationally, given that the latest collapse is also linked to Malta, to ensure that the bankruptcy does not have any negative impact locally.
