“The introduction of free public transportation for all resulted in a significant increase in passengers and demand,” Transport Minister Aaron Farrugia explained.
“The government will keep on collaborating with the operator, so that the country receives a valuable service and routes and frequencies are changed to meet the needs of the many new demographics. This is in addition to our commitment to further electrify the fleet.”
Up to 410 extra trips per day will be undertaken on 16 routes thanks to this increase, which is thought to be essential for connectivity.
On a single charge, each bus will have a 300-kilometre range. By doing this, it will be possible for each bus to provide a long-term service before having to be recharged.
When compared to non-electric buses, these electric buses are intended to improve the overall travel experience, minimise noise, and reduce emissions by about 70%.

These buses will have a charging hub at the Floriana Park and Ride and each bus can be fully charged in around two hours!!
“In August 2023, we reached a significant milestone by carrying over 6 million passengers for the first time,” Malta Public Transport Chairman Felipe Cosmen stated.
“This is extremely positive, it is a strong sign of confidence in our bus operation, and shows that people in Malta are willing to use the bus. However, we cannot stop here. We need to continue to make public transport even more attractive.”
