Germany Confirmed As Hosts Of UEFA Euro 2024
Germany will host Euro 2024 after it beat out Turkey in a vote by UEFA’s executive committee today.
UEFA’s decision means Germany, winners of the 2014 World Cup, will host the European Championship for the first time as a unified country.
Germany had hosted the 2006 World Cup but had failed in attempts to host the Euros in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
“The procedure was transparent. The voting was democratic. Every democratic decision is the right decision so I can only say I am looking forward to seeing a fantastic Euro in 2024,” UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said.
Although Ceferin said Turkey’s bid was “very strong”, an evaluation report by UEFA had flagged the country’s lack of an action plan to improve human rights and limited hotel capacity in many cities.
