Two policemen won the day after subduing two Pit Bulls who wreaked havoc at the Għasri feast last Saturday.

Many were left in awe after the dogs, both of whom were unleashed, set upon a family, and allegedly attacked a dog during the festivities. But two policemen wasted no time in stepping up to the plate.

Their bravery was witnessed by many in the area, including Għasri Mayor Daniel Attard, who recounted the incident with Lovin Malta.

“The two Pit Bulls ran loose in the same square where a number of people had gathered for the feast,” Daniel said.

During the event, the dogs made a beeline towards one particular family who had been attending the feast alongside their Cocker Spaniel, Tucker.

Footage emerged showing the dogs allegedly attacking Tucker in front of his owner. “It terrified a lot of people, including young children.”

The attack caused quite a stir, as locals in the area were forced to intervene to separate the dogs and prevent anyone – including Tucker – from sustaining injuries. But two particular policemen – who were on-site at the time, had gone the extra mile.

“I saw them with my own eyes carrying one of the large Pit Bulls back to the owner,” Daniel said.

“Sargeant Edilon and an unidentified police constable, who was armed, were able to control them without discharging their weapon. Something that would have traumatised everyone there.”

“Their actions were brave, heroic, and responsible since their actions went beyond what is expected from any human in such terrifying circumstances. It is my humble opinion that their exemplary actions should be publically commended.”

Their timely intervention led to the situation being quelled without anyone having sustained any injuries, apart from Tucker, who got out of the whole ordeal with a few minor injuries and is now on the road to recovery.
