‘Gidba Faħxija’: Joseph Muscat Denies Claim He Paid Someone To Kill Daphne Caruana Galizia

Former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has denounced a claim in court that he had paid someone to kill journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia as an “obscene lie” (gidba faħxija).

“I refer to the court testimony of a former prisoner with a long history of drug use who claimed that someone told her that I had paid someone to place the car bomb that killed Daphne Caruana Galizia. This is an obscene lie,” Muscat said.

“It was the government I was in charge of that roped in experts who helped catch the people who admitted to committing the crime.”

“I was never informed about this allegation and I was never asked to testify about it.”

Nicola Brignone testified in court that Kevin Ellul (known as “id-double O”), a man who allegedly has deep ties with Malta’s criminal network and who she was in an intimate relationship with, told her that Muscat had “paid someone” to have the bomb placed.

According to Brignone, Ellul knew about all of this because he was close to George il-Fulu and Alfred iċ-Ċiniż Degiorgio, the brothers who are currently in prison over the bombing of the journalist. Brignone claimed Ellul told her he was asked to participate in the assassination, but chose not to because he’s “not stupid”.
