Give Silvio Parnis Ġieħ Ir-Repubblika, Former PN MP And Longtime Friend Jason Azzopardi ‘Sincerely’ Urges
Former PN MP Jason Azzopardi has urged Maltese authorities to give the late MP Silvio Parnis Malta’s highest honour: the Ġieħ ir-Repubblika.
“This is my sincere and humble appeal to the government – give Silvio Parnis the Ġieħ ir-Repubblika,” Azzopardi said.
A longtime friend of Parnis’, the pair spent the last 24 years in Parliament together, having both entered the building back in 1998, before both exiting politics last year. Azzopardi was even by Parnis’ deathbed during his last moments, with the former PN MP personally effected by the passing.
“I say it again. I am writing this from the heart, and I’ll say it one more time – he will never been recognised enough for all he did and went through, but I believe this is a fair gesture.”
Parnis would not be the only politician to recently pass away and be nominated for the award; just last month, former PN MP Robert Arrigo received the award posthumously.
