‘Going, Going, Gone’: Evarist Bartolo Pens Sad Poem After New Paceville Tower Approved

Former minister Evarist Bartolo has penned a poem to decry the state of overdevelopment in Malta after the latest tower project was approved by the Planning Authority.
Bartolo posted an image of what the view of Paceville could look like once a new 33-storey tower is built.
“Towers and empty blocks of apartments, dark and closed. Buildings keep rising, but who are they being built for?” Bartolo wrote.
“Our hands are stained with the blood of this sweet land. Thirty pieces of silver, but will they be shared among us? Our conscience and our hands are clean, as we are creating wealth in these years of abundance.”

“Malta is being sold bit by bit in an eternal auction. Shadows have replaced the sun. Malta is going, going, gone, under the auction hammer’s blow.”
The new tower, whose design a PA case officer compared to a “honeycomb”, was approved by the Planning Authority last month on the road leading to the Eden Cinemas.
The project, the work of PX Lettings, will include 11 floors of office space, a hotel, 58 serviced apartments, a restaurant, an open space, and a car park for 259 cars.
Does Malta need more high-rise buildings?
