‘Gonna Take A Long Break’: Switzerland Biking Accident Cancels Fabio Spiteri Ultra Race As Operation Needed
What should have been Fabio Spiteri’s first podium has turned out to be another disaster, after Malta’s beloved ultra endurance athlete sacrificed his challenge in the face of a serious accident.
As he was competing in the Swiss Ultra race, a boy crossed the road without looking, with Fabio ending up with a broken clavicle. He has now been hospitalised and is set to undergo an operation.
“What had to be my first podium in ultra race turned down to be another disaster!” Fabio said on Facebook last night.
“A boy crossed the road with out looking and I had no time to break as was cycling fast on aerobars. Broken clavicle and need to do an operation,” he explained.
“First Brazil now Swizerland…all that training for nothing. Hard to accept it. Gonna take a long break!” He said.
Fabio has been an instrumental force aiding in the challenges to help Malta’s strays and animal sanctuaries, being an avid animal lover and activist.
We wish Fabio a speedy recovery!
