‘Good Food, Cheap Booze And Legal Weed’: British Tabloid Brands Malta As New ‘Amsterdam-On-Sea’

British tabloid newspaper The Sun published a report about Malta branding it as an Amsterdam-on-Sea where British holiday makers are coming in droves for “good food, cheap booze and legal weed”.
The tabloid describes Paceville as “a party district with rowdy nightlife to rival Magaluf” and talks about the legalisation of cannabis leading to “dedicated drug shops popping up alongside the countless nightclubs in Paceville”.
“Just a few hundred metres from the strip, where twenty-somethings party hard into the early hours, is a booze and cigarette shop that sells pre-rolled joints”.
In reality there are no shops licensed to sell cannabis yet and they might be referring to pre-made joints made of CBD flowers which don’t intoxicate users.

In fact Malta has always been a party island in summer where young tourists and locals congregate anywhere where there is music and alcohol.
Now weed has become legal as well and people are allowed to grow up to four plants but there is no legal way to buy recreational cannabis yet.
The Sun has been showing an interest in Malta lately, maybe because of a steep increase in bookings from the UK.
“It was recently pegged as an emerging party island, with bookings from the UK soaring by 366 per cent between June and September last year and scenes of youngsters necking body shots on social media.”
It portrays the island as a den of debauchery but it is only a Mediterranean island celebrating the Summer.
