Ministers Owen Bonnici and Byron Camilleri, alongside Parish Priest Rev. Marc Andre Camilleri, have announced a significant €400,000 government initiative to restore and enhance the Christ the King Basilica in Paola.

This funding, provided by Community Malta and the Maltese Council for the Arts, aims not just to preserve the basilica’s rich heritage but to transform it into a bustling tourist attraction with the addition of a new viewing platform.

This project promises to make the upper parts of the basilica accessible for the first time, offering breathtaking views that are sure to draw visitors and locals alike. Plans also include relocating a proposed cafeteria to a more suitable external area beside the church, ensuring that the basilica’s architectural integrity is maintained.

Minister Owen Bonnici stated that the Parish Church of Paola is unique because of its extraordinary size and said that this Church will join the ranks of churches and chapels scattered around our country that have been given substantial aid by the Government.

For his part, Minister Byron Camilleri said that as a Government they have the obligation to assist and help so that a historical heritage such as the Basilica of Christ the King is kept in the best condition possible to be enjoyed both by the people of Paola and its surroundings, but also by anyone who chooses to visit this locality.

The parish priest Marc Andre Camilleri welcomed this investment that is being made on the Basilica of Christ the King and also present was the Paola Mayor Jason Silvio and the representatives of the two bands of the Parish, Fra Antoine De Paule Philharmonic Society Banda Kristu Re and the Musical and Social Club Kristu Sultan.
