Gozo Channel Ferries Temporarily Suspended As A Result Of Heavy Rains And Inclement Weather
The Gozo Channel Ferries have been temporarily suspended due to bad weather.
Despite initially operating earlier today, it appears that the Gozo channel has now been suspended due to the ongoing heavy rain and gale-force winds.
The suspension of the ferries makes travel between Gozo and Malta impossible meaning that some Gozitans may be stranded on Malta for the day and vice versa.
“The Gozo Channel company has just announced a suspension of all ferry services between Malta and Gozo. Hundreds of Gozitans are stranded in Malta and a few of them are still on board a ferry docked at the Cirkewwa pier” said PN spokesman for Gozo Affairs Chris Said in a Facebook post.
The suspension of the ferries strengthens the argument that there is a need for a permanent tunnel between the two islands so to avoid situations like this in the future that leave some people stranded.
