After endless delays, Barts Medical School has finally opened its Gozo campus.

The four-storey 8,100 square metre building located by the Gozo General Hospital, includes a 140 seat auditorium, two small lecture theatres that can combine into a 120 seat facility, two computer labs (each with capacity for 70 students), and teaching rooms and clinical skills rooms.

The building also hosts a library, student support facilities, a large canteen and social space, and offices.

A five-year Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) will be taught at the school.

The completion of the school (an Anatomy Centre was opened last December) has been long coming.

First launched by Vitals Global Healthcare before they ran into financial difficulty, the project was completed by the new concessionaires of the three-state hospitals, Steward Healthcare.

Professor Anthony Warrens, Dean for Education at Barts said: “This marks a significant new chapter in Queen Mary’s presence in Malta. This state-of-the-art facility will be a boon for students and staff alike, creating an excellent teaching and learning environment while also providing additional areas for students to study and relax.”
