All of Gozo lost electricity this morning after damage was done by a contractor to underground cables in Mellieħa.

“Our engineers and technicians are working to restore electricity supply to all localities in Gozo after a third-party contractor working in Mellieħa damaged the high voltage underground cables supplying the island,” Enemalta said.

Power was restored after a few hours after Enemalta provided an alternative connection.

“Meanwhile, our engineers and technicians are working to repair the damaged 33kV cables as soon as possible. Short electricity supply interruptions in parts of Gozo may be required later today, as we complete the ongoing cable works,” Enemalta said.

Several power cuts have hit Malta in recent days, including a mass blackout last week.

Some people have been impacted more than others. An Attard resident said he spent an entire weekend without electricity after an overhead power line that provides electricity to his home suffered damage during a thunderstorm.

He criticised the authorities for leaving him hanging for what ultimately turned out to be a ten-minute job.
