Gżira mayor Conrad Borg Manché has published a brief WhatsApp conversation he had with the Prime Minister following his recent resignation from the Labour Party.

Borg Manché said he published the chat with Robert Abela to lay to rest any suggestions that the real reason he resigned from Labour was because he wanted something from the party for his own personal gain.

“I am publishing the last message I sent the Prime Minister so that everyone can know what I tried to gain for myself,” he said. “I always worked for the people and the people deserve the truth.”

In the chat, Abela had asked Borg Manché whether he wanted to discuss his resignation letter over a coffee.

However, Borg Manché was categorical.

“Thank you for this invitation but I think the letter was crystal clear. The Lands Authority’s clearance for a garden to be turned into a fuel station needs to be reversed and we need to seriously work on the family law,” he said.

“Many people are suffering and, as socialists, these should be our priorities, not to mention all the suicides and murders that are taking place. I don’t think anyone wants these cases hanging over their conscience; I certainly don’t.”

“Afterwards, we can meet up for as many coffees as you like. But I think we have met up three times in the past three months to discuss all of this, but nothing has changed. I would now like action, and not discussion. I didn’t resign from the party due to personal issues but for the rights of others.”
