‘Haha’: Tourism Minister Joins In Joke Over Malta’s Current Gridlock By Mintoff’s Great Nephew

Update: An earlier version of this article attributed the post to Mintoff’s grandson, and not his great nephew. This error is regretted.
Road closures leading to Malta’s capital city are so bad, everyone’s having a go at them… and it looks like even Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo is in on the joke.
In a Facebook post from this morning – on the third day of gridlocks between Pietà and Valletta – none other than former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff’s great nephew Christopher Mintoff joked about the “terrible” situation, saying traffic is so bad, it’s “genuinely easier to drive to Mellieħa, catch the Gozo Ferry from Ċirkewwa, and then the Fast-Ferry to Valletta.”
The quip had a couple of people instantly ‘Haha’ reacting to it, but among those first entertained readers was none other than Clayton Bartolo, the country’s Tourism Minister.

Seeing as the 35-year-old minister is actually from Mellieħa, you could see why he’d love a joke putting his northern locality’s transport efficiency in such a good light.
Since the traffic controversy erupted earlier this week, authorities took to social media to apologise over the inconvenience caused and even opened new temporary lanes to help ease the traffic.
