Ħal Far Riot Leaves Officer Injured, Three Police Cars Set On Fire

A police officer was left injured and three polices cars were set ablaze during a riot at the Ħal Far Detention Centre late Sunday night.

Taking place between 10 pm and 4 am, police officers and rapid intervention unit personnel were called to the scene. A fourth car was also damaged in the riot

Net News reported that the riot could have involved at least 1,000 people. Police were unable to confirm the total figure, but said there were “quite a few”.

Investigations are on-going.

The situation at Ħal Far’s ’Tent Village’ has grown tense over the last few months with multiple protests and disturbances taking place.

Meanwhile, the number of arrivals has increased over the last year.
