Ħamrun Ħanin: Food Drive Delivers Much-Needed Necessities To New YMCA Drop-In Centre
In a remarkable display of community solidarity, members from the voluntary group Ħamrun Ħanin delivered much-needed food and clothing to the newly-opened Drop-In Centre in Ħamrun.
Every month, between 600 to 800 people knock on the Drop-In Centre’s doors seeking help in some way.
Ħamrun Ħanin, which has partnered with Alberta Group and Ħamrun Spartans FC Daikin School of Excellence, organised this drive ahead of the upcoming International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which is remembered globally on 17th October.
“Amidst the growing challenges faced by many vulnerable members of our community, the different partners united their efforts to address the urgent issue of food insecurity,” the group said.
“The community-wide food drive brought together individuals of all ages and backgrounds to contribute to this important cause. This donation will enable YMCA to continue its vital mission of providing shelter, food, and support to individuals facing adversity within our community.”
Ħamrun Spartans FC stars Roko Prsa and Yuliyan Nenov were present to support the delivery of the rather impressive food delivery while showing the Club’s commitment to those in need.
“This community centre is serving as a bridge towards a more dignified life, as an example of inclusive communities and a motivation for further collaboration and corporate social responsibility,” Anthony Camilleri, YMCA CEO said.
“With the support of the general public, the community of Ħamrun and the stakeholders that invested in supporting our service users in providing them with dignity, we are putting a smile on the faces of those who suffer in silence.”
While Ħamrun Ħanin coordinated the collection drive, which attracted the participation of many food outlets around the island as well as individual donations, Alberta Group carried out an internal food collection drive among its staff.
On the other hand, the Ħamrun Spartans FC Daikin School of Excellence called on its young footballers, who enthusiastically joined the initiative, bringing their own contributions to support their peers in need.
Members of the Ħamrun Ħanin voluntary organisation assisted in the delivery of the food stuff to the Drop-In centre and expressed hope that more companies, sport clubs and individuals follow suit in the coming weeks to truly contribute to the fight against poverty in our country.
