Ħamrun Restaurant Owner Among Those Arrested For Assaulting Police Officers

Elton Borg, the owner of the Ħamrun restaurant Strada Rjali, is among those arrested for assaulting two police officers last night.
Borg is one of five people who were arrested after attacking two policemen in a fight that broke out after the officers issued a parking ticket for a car that had been parked illegally in Triq il- Kbira San Ġużepp.
The two officers were forced to use pepper spray and tasers and call for backup.
The attack led to widespread condemnation and shock, with Prime Minister Robert Abela denouncing it as “deplorable” and insisting that justice must be served.
This isn’t Borg’s first brush with the law. In 2014, Borg – a former member of the Ħamrun Spartans committee – was given a lifetime ban from all football activities after pleading guilty to fixing several matches.
