Head Of Police Drugs Squad Was Target Of Assassination Plot By Same Gang That Killed Daphne Caruana Galizia

Former drugs squad head Dennis Theuma was the target of an assassination plot by the same gang that murdered Daphne Caruana Galizia, according to claims made by Vince Muscat il-Koħħu.

In February last year, Muscat struck a deal with prosecutors that saw him receive a presidential pardon for his role in the 2015 murder of Carmel Chircop, as well as the Caruana Galizia assassination.

In exchange, he has provided the police with information about crimes he was aware of and turned state’s witness in both cases.

Muscat has told the court about a plot to murder a “police officer” which was underway at the same time of the journalist’s killing.

Now, MaltaToday has claimed that the police officer mentioned by Muscat is the former head of the police drugs squad Dennis Theuma.

Theuma has since been transferred to the human trafficking section, which he heads.

Before his transfer, he was investigating the alleged purchase of 100g of cocaine by the alleged mastermind in the Caruana Galizia murder Yorgen Fenech, according to the paper.

Muscat’s testimony has led to the arrest of brothers Adrian Agius and Robert Agius, as well as their associate Jamie Vella.

He has requested a second presidential pardon for his alleged role in the botched 2010 HSBC heist and has promised to implicate former Economy Minister Chris Cardona and OPM Minister Carmelo Abela in the plot.

Muscat, along with Darren Debono it-Topo, are due to stand trial over their involvement in the attempted robbery.
