National Animal Rights Day is coming up this Sunday and local NGO Animal Liberation Malta is organising a demonstration near the Triton Fountain in Valletta together with international NGO ‘Our Planet. Their’s Too’.

Animal lovers and animal rights activists all over Malta and Gozo are invited to join thousands around the world on Sunday 5th June, for the 12th National Animal Rights Day.

Events are going to be held in over 100 major cities worldwide, combining both a memorial day and an independence day for animals.

The ceremony will open with a mass memorial service in which participants will stand in a unified formation holding posters of animals, symbolising the billions who died as a result of human abuse and exploitation over the past year.

The ceremony will include music, speeches, reading of poems, telling the stories of animals that passed away the past year in the local animal sanctuaries and reading the declaration of animal rights.

Some of the posters will be wrapped in white sheets and covered with flowers, by the participating activists, to symbolise a respectful funeral that most animals never get the chance to have.

Following the planned ceremony, there will be a celebration of the major steps that have been made towards ending the suffering of animals, and adopting a non-cruelty lifestyle, with free vegan food, speeches and live music.

The entire event is free and completely open to the public, in hopes of raising more awareness on animal cruelty and their rights.
