Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela has announced that the government has reached an agreement with the Medical Association of Malta (MAM), the union representing doctors across the country.

In a statement, Abela thanked officials from the Ministry for Health and Active Ageing, as well as representatives from Mater Dei Hospital, Primary Care, the Industrial Relations Unit (IRU) within the Office of the Prime Minister, and MAM itself for their efforts in reaching the deal.

“Common sense has prevailed for the benefit of the patient,” the Minister stated.

The agreement comes after weeks of industrial action by MAM, which had issued directives affecting services at Mater Dei and other health centres.
