Help Get ‘Batman’ Back On His Feet: Only 5 Days Left To Hit Injured Athlete’s Fundraiser Goal
A Maltese man who was planning to marry and had even begun sorting out his future family home is now in a serious state after a freak accident during an obstacle course – and a fundraiser aimed at suporting his recovery is just days away from ending.
Andrea Calleja, lovingly know as Batman due to his love for the comic book character, is currently in Karen Grech Hospital recovering from his spinal injury.
A fundraiser aimed at collecting €70,000 to support his physical therapy and recovery process gathered over €56,000 – and his loved ones are hoping to hit his target in the final few days.
His father, Antonio Calleja, appeared on TV show Illum ma’ Steph to recount how the couple were just about to begin a new chapter in their life, planning to marry and working on their new home – to the point that things they ordered for their new home began to arrive while he was still in hospital.
After spending two months in the ITU and undergoing two operations, Andrea is making a slow but steady recovery, with a dedicated page sharing footage of the man pushing beyond his injuries.
However, a lot of work needs to be done – thankfully, with the support of his team and the generosity of the Maltese, there is still hope.
