‘Help Me Fulfil My Dream’: Bjorn Formosa Addresses Malta Ahead Of Tonight’s Major Xarabank Fundraiser
ALS activist Bjorn Formosa has been waiting a long time for tonight, a Xarabank telethon to fund his dream project of a house for patients suffering from neurodegenerative problems.
“I would like to thank the public in advance for all they’ve done,” Bjorn told Lovin Malta ahead of the telethon. “It’s been a long campaign and we’ve raised around €1.5 million but we now need that final push to make the dream come true.”
Bjorn plans to raise around €1 million tonight, which would then leave him with only around €1.5 million to collect to start working on the project.
Since launching his ALS Malta Foundation in 2014, Bjorn has managed to earn enough money to build a ‘Dar Bjorn’ in Qormi to house around 13 people suffering from ALS and other neurodegenerative diseases.
However, the second planned Dar Bjorn in Ħaż-Żebbuġ will be a considerable upgrade. Spanning eight floors with a total area of 5000 square metres, it will create a boutique hotel and hospital environment for up to 50 patients.
“It will be a neurological hub with commodities to improve the quality of life of patients, such as one-to-one care within the ambience of a home, brain-computer interface systems for patients who have lost the ability to move their eyes and other avant-garde technology,” Bjorn explained. “It won’t just be a unique project for Malta, but for Europe and the world.”
