Just over three months ago, Malta was being constantly bombarded by heatwaves, including one aptly named Lucifer. This week, as November ends and the first weekend of December looms in the distance, it’s about to suddenly get pretty cold.

Forecasts for this week have temperatures highs hovering just over 15°C, with a strangely warm day of 21°C on Thursday. The lows for the rest of the week, on the other hand, are one mixed bag of cold. Starting with 13°C tonight and momentarily bumping up to 16°C on Thursday, the temperature at night will go down to 10°C over the weekend. That’s not only lower than November’s annual average of 15°C… it’s also already colder than December’s annual lows (a milder 12°C).

Strong winds will be also be a daily occurrence for most of this week, with Monday kicking off at a strong Force 6 (sometimes even verging onto 7). The wind will calm down for a day or two in the middle of the week, but will pick back up to Forces 5 and 6 over the weekend, no doubt making those low temperatures feel even colder.

As far as rain goes, the forecast looks slightly more hopeful.

The rest of today might see more rain, with the probability of precipitation sitting at 80%, but the rain might not return to the island until as long as Saturday.  Chances of rainfall there go back to 70%, with Sunday potentially holding more isolated showers.

Needless to say, you’re probably not going to get sunburnt this week, with the UV Index sitting on a miserly 2 all the way up to Sunday.

While cities like Paris and London have already started experiencing their first 0°Cs of the season, we all know how much relatively colder temperatures feel in Malta (cue the clichéd, “Tħossħa dieħla fl-għadam!”).

So if you’re a fan of cold weather, it seems like the first couple of days of December have got just what you’ve been hoping for.

Get those wooly jumpers out!
