Leah Schembri, the daughter of hit-and-run victim and heroic police officer Simon Schembri, has spoken about how excited she is for this Sunday’s Father’s Day. In comments to Xarabank, Leah spoke about how she would think about her father while he was in hospital, and was going to make the most of her time with him now that he has recovered.

“Father’s Day is going to mean a lot to me this year,” Leah said, “it’s going to be even more special than ever before. Like every father who has children, my father means a lot to me, and now more than ever because I know I could have lost him forever.”

“I am proud that my father was able to pass through this very ugly incident. However, I have urged him to recover more. After this incident, everyone should appreciate the value of life and how important life is because everything can change in a second and you could never see your family again,” she said.

Leah had previously posted messages of support her father after he was attacked

Simon Schembri was released from hospital last week to applause from the Malta Police Force and praise from Maltese all over the world
