Hospice Malta Staff Complete Special Training Programme At Galway Hospice Through Erasmus+

Four members of Hospice Malta’s care team have just completed a job shadowing programme at Galway Hospice in Ireland, an experience made possible through the Erasmus+ fund. The initiative forms part of Hospice Malta’s ongoing commitment to investing in its staff and continually strengthening the quality of palliative care offered within the community.

Community Nurse Alison Ellul, Psychotherapist Carly Ciantar, Complementary Therapist Stephanie Zahra, and Social Worker Gillian Barbara spent time observing and working alongside Galway Hospice’s multidisciplinary team. Their programme exposed them to various care settings including inpatient services, day care and community-based support, helping them gain a deeper understanding of holistic, collaborative care.

The placement also allowed the team to exchange best practices and forge stronger professional relationships with international colleagues. The insights brought home will now contribute directly to the ongoing development of clinical and support services at St Michael Hospice in St Venera.

Chief Clinical Officer Anna Frendo said:

“Each international placement represents an important learning opportunity for our team. By observing how other hospices operate, our staff can bring back new ideas, perspectives and methods that can further strengthen our approach to patient and family care. This is part of our wider goal to ensure that Hospice Malta remains at the forefront of palliative care delivery.”

These placements follow other successful job shadowing programmes completed earlier this year, with more Hospice Malta staff set to participate in upcoming Erasmus+ mobility opportunities as part of the organisation’s continued investment in professional growth.

Hospice Malta provides free palliative care services across Malta and Gozo to patients living with cancer, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, and advanced cardiac, respiratory, kidney and liver conditions.
