‘How Can You Sink So Low?’: FKNK Head Denounces Comments Celebrating Hunters’ Injuries

Lucas Micallef, the president of the hunting lobby FKNK, has condemned vicious comments aired against two hunters who were involved in a freak accident yesterday and said legal action is being discussed.

“How can one sink so low as to wish ill on others because you disagree with their hobbies?” Micallef questioned.

“Whenever we see unmerited racist comments or comments related to civil societies, we make sure to immediately and unreservedly condemn them, and I expect the same condemnation towards towards these comments.”

Yesterday, two hunters suffered injuries after aiming at the same turtle dove from adjacent fields and accidentally sprayed each other with lead pellets.

A number of people celebrated the hunters’ misfortune, describing it as “good news” and saying they “now know what the birds feel like”.

“While the right to free expression is a right that should allow people to express diverse opinions, it has its limits too,” Micallef said. “It is certainly unacceptable for people who comment on a number of liberal or humanitarian rights to also publicly wish ill on others on social media platforms.”

“I won’t enter into the merits of how the local media tried to sensationalise the case because a firearm and hunters were involved, but I have to comment on the derogatory comments made by people who wish ill on others.”

He said the FKNK yesterday engaged their legal team to evaluate what action can be taken against people who “spread hatred against the hunter community”.
