Hundreds Of Illegally Imported Protected Birds Found In Homes Around Malta; 7 People Arrested

The authorities have discovered hundreds of illegally imported protected birds following a series of raids around Malta.

Around 500 stuffed protected birds were found in one farmhouse in Ħal Safi. The Environment Resources Authority conducted raids in Ħal Kirkop, il-Gudja u Ħal Safi.

The birds found included pelicans, flamingo, storks, and eagles.

The birds are believed to have been imported from Sudan and Egypt to Malta.

Seven people are currently being questioned by the police.

Hunting is once again under the microscope after two protected birds were shot, including a flamingo, despite the hunting season being closed.
