A man has pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of his wife despite admitting to officers that he struck a hammer to her head and face inside their home.

Last Monday, news of the reports shocked the country after the 61-year-old woman from Mellieħa was discovered covered in blood along Triq Qasam Barrani.  She was immediately rushed to hospital suffering with serious injuries.

The hammer, police officers revealed in the court, was discovered on site and has been taken in for evidence.

Emmanuel Borg, also 61, has been charged with attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm and threatening his wife. He has pleaded not guilty, even though Inspectors in court explained that he admitted the crime to the police.

The court turned down a request for bail, with the couple’s children and other witnesses still have to testify.

The children, the court heard, want absolutely nothing to do with their father.

Borg will be kept at the forensic unit of Mount Carmel Jospital.
