Maltese MEP Miriam Dalli has opened up and shared her thoughts as Malta is reeling from the shocking revelations implicating some of the highest officials and businessmen in the land in the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

“I am angry and betrayed,” Dalli said Saturday morning. “And I know that, just like me, so many feel the same way. Those who have spoken to me – Labourites and otherwise, are feeling disorientated.”

“This is not an issue of Labourites and Nationalists. This is an issue for the entire country.”

Dalli has been a Member of the European Parliament representing Malta since 2014.

Dalli’s post comes after a day where the island of Malta expected Prime Minister Joseph Muscat to resign, with thousands attending a peaceful protest in the evening outside Castille.

Dalli called for the issue not to drag on, and for answers to be given to the many questions the Maltese people have.

“Justice needs to happen, and it needs to be seen that it happens to everyone,” she continued. “We need to protect our country first and foremost because this is the Malta and Gozo that we hope our children grow up in.”

“This is a difficult time. But I am convinced that together we can become strong again.”

She had racked up over 1.6k reactions within 25 minutes of her post on Facebook, and a flood of positive comments followed soon after.

“It’s now down to your leadership of this country to rebuild what has been destroyed from the Maltese. I have trust in you and as per the last election, it is very clear that Malta wants you. I was on board the ‘l-Għira tad-dinja’ movement but now we are in a situation where we are fighting to be EU worthy. Tread wisely .. we are behind you, all the way! Our faith relies upon you,” said one man.

“Well said Miriam,” said a Maltese woman. “I am Nationalist, but I believe you are the one to bring our country to the Gem in the Mediterranean that it was, let us all unite PL and PN to bring our country to a peaceful and loving island.”

What do you think of Dalli’s words at this moment of crisis for the island?
