‘I Can’t Believe We Won’t See You Again’: Marzia Calleja Maatouk’s Brother Pays Tribute To Late Fugitive
Marzia Calleja Maatouk’s brother has paid tribute to the wanted Maltese fugitive after she was found dead in Libya.
“We had loved you so much Marzia, and I had hoped we would be together again,” Marvin Zammit posted.
“You have no idea how much I loved you, and how much your favourite grandparents had loved you. But now we won’t see you again. I can’t believe we won’t speak to you again. He should have taken me, Marz, instead of you. You were so young. Pray for me, your grandparents and your family.”

TVM announced yesterday that Marzia, 24, was found dead by Libyan troops almost a year after she and her husband Jomic Calleja Mattouk fled the country and were placed on Europe’s most wanted list.
In August 2023, Jomic Calleja Maatouk was sentenced to five years in prison for importing a C-4 explosive and attempting to buy lethal poison Ricin, fentanyl and even radioactive material Polonium-210 on the dark web.
Marzia Calleja Maatouk, meanwhile, was sentenced to 15 months in prison after being found with “aggravated possession of drugs”, and was on Europol’s list for illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
The couple was located some 90 minutes east of Tripoli. Jomic Calleja Maatouk has been arrested and is expected to be extradited to Malta, where he is also wanted for skipping bail.
