Arts Minister Owen Bonnici has clarified the circumstances around a random video he took with the social media personality known as ‘Lilu King’.
“Yesterday evening, as I was walking to my car in between events, a white car stopped and a tall man emerged. He very politely asked me to take a photo with him,” Bonnici said.
“I didn’t know this man, we never spoke before, and I took a photo with him as I do with many people.”

“After we took this photo, he told me, in Maltese but a foreign accent, that he is known as Lilu King and voluntarily told me that he is facing a number of court cases.”
The ‘photo’ turned out to be a short video that Lilu King uploaded to his Instagram stories.
The Libyan national, whose full name is Mohamed Ali Ahmed Elmushraty, is currently facing charges of alleged involvement in an organised criminal group and money laundering. He spent nine months in prison but was released on bail last March.
