Ella Debono is a 12-year-old girl suffering from central core disease (CCD), a rare condition that affects essential parts of her body, and now, she is pleading for financial help in order to seek timely treatment in England.

“I am Ella Debono and I am asking for your help from the bottom of my heart,” a Facebook page dedicated to the young girl said.

When Ella was born, doctors immediately knew that she had CCD, a condition that, according to her Facebook, she is the only sufferer of in Malta.

“In a few words, CCD affects the muscles, respiratory system, and bones.”

“I started walking when I was three-years-old and my mother, who uses a wheelchair, began noticing signs of autism. I was eventually diagnosed with both autism and ADHD and to this day, I still can’t run and jump like all the other children.”

Ella explained that she began therapy with a host of different professionals including a speech therapist, an occupational therapist and a physiotherapist.

“The physiotherapy helped me maintain my balance when I walk because I used to fall a lot,” she said.

“Of course, these come with a fee. The older I get, the more the costs increase because my needs are continuous, especially when it comes to physiotherapy.”

She further explained that she has scoliosis and hyperlordosis, and these issues are only getting worse. If she doesn’t do the necessary therapy, her back will continue bending and she will have to be operated on – such an operation would leave her wheelchair bound.

“To try to prevent all of this, I will need intensive therapy to go to England every six months.”

However, despite the cards she’s been dealt with, Ella is still a joyful young girl who enjoys all of the things that other kids do.

One of her passions is music, she loves to sing as her fingers dance away on piano keys.

As you can see, Ella is full of life and energy, but her condition is one that is life-long. Thus meaning that it comes with numerous financial burdens that can sometimes halt her from receiving the treatment she needs.

Donations for the young girl can be sent on the BOV mobile app using the number 99864524 or BOV account with the IBAN number: MT34VALL22013000 00004002.
