‘I Think It’s Better You Tell Us How Much Nikolaos Costs’: PN MP Tells Gozo Channel Chairman
Gozitan Nationalist MP Alex Borg has clapped back at the Gozo Channel Chairman Joe Cordina, after he questioned him in a comment made on Facebook on how the MP obtained the cost figure for renting the often-controversial Nikolaos Ferry.
Borg questioned why Cordina was asking him how much the rent cost is, and instead said that he thinks it’s better if he let the public know how much the Greek ferry has been costing taxpayers.
“The Chairman of Gozo Channel, Joe Cordina, is asking me, a Member of Parliament from the Opposition, to explain where I got the figure from,” Borg said in a Facebook post this morning, referring to the €14,000 figure.
“A Chairman who is involved in every discussion, contract, and agreement concerning the Company. A Chairman who has been there since 2013, under three Ministers for Gozo. A Chairman who, together with the then-Minister for Gozo, brought us Nikolaos,” he continued.
“A Chairman who has been renting a shop, pretending it is an office, for years, without use, costing Gozo Channel tens of thousands a year.”
“Perhaps it’s better if you tell us how much the rent is costing. After all, the public has a right to know,” he said.
He concluded by saying that now the public can judge who is actually avoiding answering basic questions.
In his post, Borg also included the answers to two parliamentary questions that he had tabled back in 2023, where he inquired on the cost but was not given an answer.
The figure remains unknown to the public.
