‘I Wouldn’t Vote For Biden Or Trump As President Of Filfla’: Evarist Bartolo
Former Maltese Foreign Affairs Minister Evarist Bartolo said he wouldn’t vote for either Joe Biden or Donald Trump if they were running for President of Filfla.
“If Joe Biden and Donald Trump had to contest an election to become President of Filfla, I would choose to abstain,” Bartolo said, quipping that he “wants what is best for the Filfla lizards, both those with one tail and those with two.”
Bartolo spoke out after Biden and Trump went head to head in a debate last week, which he said went “disastrously” for both candidates for different reasons.
“Many people ask why the US presidential election has become a competition between a bad option and a worse one. There are over 260 million over-18s in the United States, couldn’t they have found better options?”
Biden’s display of aged frailty in the debate has raised serious concerns, with some Democrats even calling for the US President to drop out of the race.
Bartolo proposed Pete Buttigieg, the Maltese-American Secretary of Transport, as a possible replacement.
“A survey showed that Pete Buttigieg is the second most popular Democratic alternative behind Kamala Harris, and he seems to have done well in his three years in office, although there were serious train-related incidents.”
“He ensured a continuous supply of essential goods during the COVID-19 pandemic. He is a good and charismatic communicator who is in favour of politics of inclusion and reason, even though hotheadedness, hatred and division currently prevail in American politics.”
“His father was Prof. Joe Buttigieg, a very intelligent man from Ħamrun who was in favour of social justice and equality, and a global scholar on the works of Antonio Gramsci.”
“I wish Pete well, although I must admit that, no matter how good the President us, there is little they can do by themselves. They must come face to face with military, economic and financial power blocs that seek to dominate in the US and the world.”
