Transport Minister Ian Borg has hit out at a Moviment Graffitti activist after he warned the Central Link road upgrade project will also be detrimental to the health of the minister’s baby daughter.

In a post that quickly went viral, the activist warned that Borg’s daughter will be disappointed that her father didn’t look out for her future “as our kids will be of us if we don’t stand up to be counted”.

Borg responded by decrying the activist’s use of his daughter to justify his argument.

“Personal attacks only convince me to work with even more energy in favour of the country which I love so much,” Borg said. “However, there are those who don’t only want to take things personally but bring my daughter into the argument too.”

“Yes, I’m convinced that, when she grows up, my ‘princess’ will be proud of the work I’ve done for the benefit of Malta.”

The permit for the road upgrade covers the uprooting of 549 trees, as well as the transplantation of a further 237, and the destruction of up to 50,000 square metres of agricultural land. However, Borg insisted the project will safeguard the environmental interest of the area, noting that the distinctive Aleppo pine trees on Mdina Road won’t be impacted.
